It certainly takes a truck tons of power, style, and comfort to win the PickupTrucks.com Midsize Shootout, which occurs yearly on the website. This year, the 2012 Toyota Tacoma was crowned the winner, crushing six other popular mid-size trucks.

The website's editor, Mark Williams, describes the winning qualities in the Toyota truck, stating, "Of all the small trucks we tested, the Tacoma was the clear winner in this Shootout. A strong bang-for-your buck value, combined with refinements to the ride quality and interior cabin helped the Tacoma trump the other competitors by a pretty good margin. The Toyota Tacoma just continues to get better and better."¹ The seven trucks, including the Tacoma, the Ford Ranger, the Chevy Colorado, the GMC Canyon, the Honda Ridgeline, and the Suzuki Equator were judged in ten different tests by PickupTruck.com experts and USA TODAY judges to determine the winner. Some of the tests included off-road driving capability, braking and acceleration at maximum cargo capacity, and a diverse two-hundred mile drive to analyze comfort and fuel economy. Horsepower, maximum load capacity, and overall value also helped the judges decide the winner.
