2013 Scion FR-S Packs a Sporty Punch
When most people hear the word "Scion," they think small, affordable boxy autos with a quirky personalities. That view of the brand will soon change with the release of the 2013 Scion FR-S- a completely different vehicle than we've seen from the automaker before. If we had to make a comparison, it would be the Scion tC, but unless we're focusing on a somewhat similar shape, that evaluation doesn't really hold. The new Scion FR-S is a sporty, sleek coupe that looks more like a luxury model than a price conscious one- even though it will certainly have a low starting MSRP when it rolls off production lines this spring.
Larry Hutchinson, Senior Executive Director of Toyota Canada, described the new Scion when it debuted recently at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, stating, "With its style, performance, authenticity and originality, the FR-S fits perfectly with the passion Scion is all about. The FR-S is a legit sports car - a car that is awesome to drive, a car that is light and nimble, a car that is sleek and sporty, and a car that is exciting and affordable."1 This new Toyota traces its lineage back to three primary models: the Toyota 2000GT (for its lowness and long hood), the Toyota Sports 800(for its RWD and front-mounted boxer engine), and, perhaps most importantly, the Toyota AE86, a car that didn't rely on horsepower so much as it did its lightweight design, response capabilities, and excellent balance.
